Terms and Conditions

The laboratory retains the right to refuse samples that may pose a risk or danger to laboratory personnel.

No human samples will be accepted.

Only fixed, non-human primate samples will be accepted.

We reserve the right to subcontract any work required to complete testing on submissions. Any work that is subcontracted will be indicated as such on the report.

The submitter is responsible for adherence to sample shipping regulations.

Submitted specimens including carcasses, tissues and agents isolated from specimens become the property of the NDSU-VDL.

No specimens, carcasses or body parts will be returned to the submitter.

Live animals are not accepted.

Safety of our faculty and staff is of upmost importance. As a unit within NDSU, which maintains access to the VDL, we are closed whenever NDSU deems the weather to be too hazardous for campus to remain open.

Animal products intended for human consumption will not be tested.

Additional Fees

A $10.00 accession fee will be applied to all cases except EIAs.

For cases involving insurance claims or litigation, contact the laboratory for instructions and fees.

Requests to correct animal and/or owner information after release of results, requiring us to amend/correct previously distributed reports will result in a $10 form correction fee

Legal cases are subject to an additional $250.00 base fee to cover the cost associated with chain of custody handling.

A $30.00 shipping and handling fee is charged for all samples sent to a referral laboratory.

A rush fee will be applied to all submissions requesting expedited test results. Rush requests must be approved by the department performing the test prior to sample submission. Not all rush requests can be accommodated due to staffing and other factors. Standard turnaround times still apply but delays in testing will be communicated to the client. Rush fees range from $30-$50 per sample or pool.

Additional processing fees may be applied for cases requiring substantial time to re-label or organize a case. Fees will be up to $25 per 50 samples. For example, a Johne’s case of 300 samples without sequential numbering (1, 2, 3, 4….) would accrue an additional $150 in fees. To avoid additional fees, follow collection and labeling guidelines for each test.

A $100.00 emergency fee will be charged for after-hours whole animal submissions.

A necropsy/disposal fee will be added to all cases involving whole animals.

There is an additional $100.00 disposal surcharge on horses.
