What is your diagnosis?The mystery photo is egg yolk coelomitis (peritonitis). In this case, there is massive build-up of yolk within the oviducts, which contributed to yolk deposition within the coelomic cavity. |

What other condition(s) may cause multifocal lesions in the coelomic cavity of adult female chickens?Carcinomatosis from ovarian or oviductal carcinoma is frequently diagnosed in older hens. Metastases may be present along the GI serosa or invading organs within the coelomic cavity. Lymphoma may cause enlargement of coelomic structures, especially the liver. |
