Answer to Dr. Broughton’s Mystery Photo- August 2021

What’s your diagnosis? Schistosomus reflexus

This is a congenital disorder with a possible genetic etiology, although no specific genetic defect or mode of inheritance has been identified. Key features of this condition include spinal inversion with hindlimbs positioned adjacent to the skull, ankylosis of the limbs, and exposed abdominal viscera. The abnormally formed fetus can result in dystocia and subsequent surgical intervention and/or fetotomy.
