Common differential list:
• Bacteria: Histophilus somni, Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Mycoplasma bovis,
• Viruses: BoHV-1 (IBR), bovine respiratory coronavirus, BRSV, BVDV, PI3
• Atypical interstitial pneumonia
Samples to submit (fresh and fixed)
• Lung: sample 3-4 areas of lung, generous portions of lesions and adjacent less affected lung
• Trachea
• Heart from left papillary muscle
• Liver
• Ear notch
• Brain: whole brain fresh if concerned about Histophilus somni
• Any additional gross lesions

Standard tests run at the laboratory (included in the general investigation)
• Histopathology
• Aerobic and Mycoplasma sp. culture
• Bovine respiratory disease multiplex PCR (BoHV-1, bovine respiratory coronavirus, BRSV, BVDV)
